Climate Change, Woodland Management and the Timber Trade

Rural Development Initiatives Ltd and the Institute of Chartered Foresters Midlands Region, supported by Landskills East Midlands, have organised a half day seminar on the subject of climate change, woodland management and the timber trade.

The implications of climate change for the forestry and timber industries are forecast to be wide ranging and significant. From restock species choice to increasingly rigorous procurement policies, the impacts of climate change in the East Midlands are being felt now and can only increase. But it’s not all bad news – with timber being the ultimate in sustainable construction materials and new species being realistic options there are opportunities for the sector. Come along to this half day seminar to learn about climate change related opportunities and threats from leading experts in research, policy and industry.

Speakers from various organisations including the Forestry Commission, Forest Research, CPET and industry will be talking about climate change in relation to: –

• Impacts on the timber trade and woodchain
• The sustainable procurement of timber
• Timber marketing
• Phytosanitary implications for the timber trade
• The regional perspective
• Opportunities and threats to the timber trade

For ICF members the Midlands Regional Group AGM will follow lunch.
